Storytime Basics!
The Children's Department runs storytime programs 52 weeks a year, with special sessions offered seasonally. Children ages 3 months to 8 years are invited to attend. Check our monthly
calendar or call the library at (203) 262-0626 for details and registration information.
Drop-In Stories
Drop-In Stories are offered every Monday morning at 10:30. All ages are welcome and there is no registration required. 30 minutes of stories are shared, and then the children are invited to play with the dinosaurs, puppets and puzzles, do a craft, color pictures, and check out books to take home.
Seasonal Storytimes and On-Going Progams
All of our other storytimes require registration and are offered four times a year (Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall).
Mother Goose Time is for infants age 3 to 12 months. Babies and their parents or caregivers gather in the storytime room to share Mother Goose rhymes, songs and fingerplays. As space is limited, registration is required.
Babies and Books is an interactive programs for babies aged 12 to 24 months and their parents or caregivers. Age appropriate toys are offered for play in our storytime room, and babies and their adults play for 15 to 20 minutes. As the babies sit in their caretaker's laps, the Children's Librarian shares short books, songs and finger plays. As space is limited, registration is required.
Storytime for 2 year olds is offered four times a year for six week sessions. Parents and caregivers are invited to join their two's for 30 minutes of theme based stories and songs in our storynook. The children then go to the craft tables to make a craft that relates back to the storytime theme. As space is limited, registration is required.
Storytime for ages 3-5, children are invited to listen to stories and sing songs with the Children's Librarian in the storynook and then join their parents and caregivers for a craft that relates to the theme of the stories. Children should be able to sit independently to attend this storytime session. As space is limited, registration is required.
Book Buddies meet the third Wednesday of the month. A different book is chosen and read in advance of the meeting, along with a craft and a snack. This group is for children in grades 1-3. Registration is required for this program.
The American Girls Booktalk group is intended for girls in grades 4-8. The girls all read the same book and then discuss it with the Children's Librarian on the first Thursday of the month at 4:00. Registration is required for this group.
Board Game Bonanza is open to all kids in grades 3 and up. Chess, Checkers, Clue, Scrabble and many other board games will be available for use. Bring a friend or your favorite grown-up for an hour of play!
Crafty Kids is for kids in grades 4 and up. Kids can bring in their favorite cross-stitch, knitting or sewing project in to work on. Help and assistance will be available. This group will meet the last Monday of every month.
Special holiday programs, nursery school and daycare visits and booktalks are offered throughout the year. All are publicized in the local newspapers and in advance in our monthly children's calendar.
