McCann Concerts

Liz Childs
The library offers concerts each year thanks to a generous gift from the late Frasier McCann. This year's concert on Sunday, July 12th at 4:00 p.m. featured the renowned jazz vocalist: Liz Childs.
Last year's concert "Community Jazz" was organized by the Shepaug Friends of Music in association with the Minor Memorial Library, featuring the Andrew Breskin Quintet. Selections of jazz classics, including the works of Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, highlighted this event.
Students from the Shepaug High School music program performed with the Quintet as a special feature of this concert.

Please call the library at 860/350-2181 for additional information.
Calder Event
Sunday, July 20th, 2008 we enjoyed a very special day in the history of Roxbury, Connecticut. On that date "MOUNTAINS" by Alexander Calder was dedicated at the Roxbury Minor Memorial Library. We were privileged to have had Alexander Calder be part of our community for many years, and we are honored that through the generosity of the Calder Foundation, this historic work will be on long term loan to the town where Alexander Calder was our neighbor and friend for so many years. Alexander Calder was born in 1898 and he died in 1976. This July also marks the 110th anniversary of his birth. We celebrated not only the dedication of this historic piece, but also Alexander Calder's life.
With this work which will always be on view for everyone to enjoy, comes the responsibility for its preservation and safety. We are hopeful that the community will want to come together to be sure that this historic piece of art, by our most famous local artist, will be maintained for generations to come.
