The Library does NOT automatically close when the schools or town hall do in response to bad weather, actual
or predicted. We make our own independent decisions, based on considerations particular to our building and
services (including but not limited to the safety of our patrons and staff on the roads and on our property).
Of course, there is always fine print in every policy, and this is no exception. Parents and children take
note! In the event of a school closing, all Library-sponsored storytimes and other children’s activities are
cancelled, whether the Library is open or not.
For notice of closings (including early closings and late openings), you may check the following:

Announcements on WINE-AM, I-95 FM, WLAD-AM and 98Q FM radio.
The Connecticut Weather Center. Click on “Cancellations and
Notifications” and look for information about our status under “Libraries.”
The “Events” section of this website.
Call us at 438-2282. As a matter of fact, we recommend strongly that you call the Library before coming out if the weather is
questionable. It is possible we may be about to close early or have not yet been able to open, and we do not
want you risking your safety just to get a video back on time.
FINES -- If the Library is closed for all or part of a day, there will be no fines charged for that day.
You may call at any time the
Library is open to renew any eligible item (please do not leave renewal messages on our voicemail system, as
we need to verify that items you wish to extend are actually renewable).
Of course, a little snow and ice won’t stop you from visiting this website, where you can search our catalog,
place a hold, check your patron account, find out about upcoming programs for all ages, check out an e-book,
have a virtual chat with a reference librarian at
infoAnytime
and access a vast selection of
electronic databases covering a whole world of subjects. So stay warm and cozy at home, while still enjoying
the resources of your Library – any time, anywhere, any weather! |
