Fall Book Sale Approaching; Cut-off for Donations this Friday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The
Friends of the Library are
busy getting ready for their big Fall Book Sale, which will take place
November 2-5. In order to
sort and price the thousands of books in every category, the Friends
must stop accepting new donations this
Friday, October 19th.
For
the rest of this week, you may bring in your good condition books during
the Library's open hours. Please pack them in boxes or sturdy bags for
easier handling. Receipts are available for tax purposes if you know the
approximate number of items you are donating.
The
Friends will resume accepting donations on November 12th.
Check here for guidelines for donations. |
our popular sleepover at the Library
This chaperoned visit offers participants plenty of fun activities,
great food and a unique opportunity to experience the Library after
hours.
Cost
is $100 per child, which supports the Library's Children's Services
department. Space is limited, and only a few places are still available.
Double Dose of Robert Frost this Week
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Join
us in the Dayton Program Room at 7 PM on
Thursday,
October 18th as actor
Stephen Collins returns with
a program of the poetry of Robert
Frost. Mr. Collins has appeared several times in our
Portraits in Motion series.
While not impersonating an historical figure this time, his dramatic
skills will no doubt make for a riveting evening.
The
next day, Friday, October 19th,
the monthly Poetry Discussion Group
will continue its own exploration of the poetry of Frost,
under the leadership of poet and retired English professor
Alan Holder. Join us in the
Dayton Program Room at 1 PM for this absorbing session.
Visit Stephen Collins' website. |

Teen Read Week Features Movie on Friday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The
Teen Read Week theme of
LOL @ your Library
will be on display this Friday,
October 19th at 4 PM, when 6th-12th graders are invited to
join the fun in the Dayton Program Room at a screening of
Blades of Glory starring
comedian Will Ferrell.
Teens
can also "laugh out loud" by coming into Children's Services anytime
this week with a clean joke to tell
Teen Services Librarian Geri Diorio. All jokers earn a piece
of candy (one joke per day per person, please!).
Check out the Teen section of our webpage. |
