Re-scheduled Amelia Earhart Program this Saturday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jessa
Piaia's Portraits in Motion
performance of Amelia Earhart: First
Lady of the Air has been re-scheduled for Saturday,
December 8th at 2 PM in the
Dayton Program Room. Weather last weekend restricted Ms. Piaia's travel
- something that would never have deterred the pioneering aviatrix she
portrays in this one-woman show! |
Music, Art and Poetry All on Tap Sunday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You'll
have to be fast on your feet to keep up with all the wonderful cultural
offerings available this weekend! Start with a recital in the Dayton
Program Room at 1 PM by Ridgefield's own
David Gale, the young
violinist who has been developing a world-wide reputation since winning
the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra's Music Performance Competition a few
years ago. David will be performing works by Mozart, J.S. Bach, Paganini
and Wienawski, accompanied by pianist Evan Solomon. Reservations are not
required, but space is limited.
Then
travel on over to the Ridgefield
Guild of Artists at 34 Halpin Lane, where another celebrated
local talent, Ira Joe Fisher,
will entertain with a reading of his poetry beginning at 2 PM. On
display will be works of art submitted by Guild member artists in
response to Mr. Fisher's book of poetry,
Some Holy Weight in the Village Air.
The Library will be supplying refreshments for this latest in our
ARTalk series of events
co-sponsored with the Guild. For more information about this event and
about the Guild's current Festive Home exhibit and sale, call 438-8863
or visit their
website. |

Italian Poster Art Subject of Author Talk on December 13th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lorenzo Ottaviani
will
deliver a multimedia presentation about his new book,
Travel Italia - The
Golden Age of Italian Posters, on Thursday evening,
December 13 at 7 PM in the
Dayton Program Room. Commenting on Mr. Ottaviani's book, renowned
graphic designer Milton Glaser calls it "a beautiful piece of work."
Travel Italia is a coffee
table book which showcases an anthology of vintage Italian posters known
for their vivid colors and graphic forms and dating from 1920-1960. The
book will be featured in the December 2007 issue of
Vanity Fair magazine. Mr.
Ottaviani not only wrote, but also designed and produced
Travel Italia which was
published by Abrams Books this month. He will speak about the content of
the travel posters as well as his role as designer and producer of the
book.
Copies
of the book will be available for sale and signing after the
Library Closings this Month
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The
Library will be
closed
on Monday, December 24 and
Tuesday, December 25.
However, we will be open and ready to help you the weekend before the
holiday. Stop by for extra DVDs to keep the kids busy while you finish
your holiday preparations! College and high school students will be
pleased to know that we will also be open our normal hours the rest of
the holiday week, offering a quiet place to buckle down to those term
papers and studying for finals.
The
Library will be
open
on New Year's Eve, Monday December
31st, but we will close at
4 PM to allow our staff to get home safe and sound before the
evening's festivities. We will remain
closed on
New Year's Day, opening again
on Wednesday the 2nd at 10 AM. |

Book Groups On - and Off - This Month
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At
this busy time of the year, some of the Library's ongoing offerings are
on hiatus in deference to seasonal activities. The
AM Book Group and
Critics' Circle Book Group
will not meet this month, but the intrepid
Poetry Discussion Group will
gather on Friday, December 14th at 1
PM for a 4th session focused on the poetry of Robert Frost.
All of
the Library's monthly book discussion groups, including the Tuesday
Evening Nonfictioneers, are completing their selection of new titles for
the winter and spring. Pick up copies of the new lists at the Library or
check our website for details. New members are always welcome at all
four groups. Please note: The AM Book Group will move its meetings to 10
AM starting in January.
