Groups Announce New Selections
Welcome to the latest issue of the Ridgefield Library's electronic
newsletter. Each month, subscribers receive in their e-mail inbox a sampling
of the many treasures to be found at the Ridgefield Library.

Summer Hours Now in Effect
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
School's
over, and so are Sunday hours at the Ridgefield Library - at least until the
fall semester begins. Our summer hours are:

Monday 10-6

Tuesday 10-9

Wednesday 10-6

Thursday 10-9

Friday 10-6

Saturday 9-5

Sunday CLOSED
Please
note also that the Library will be closed on Wednesday, July 4th. Happy

Summer Reading in Full Swing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you
were one of the 2,241 people who visited the Library on Monday, you don't
need to be told that Summer Reading is underway! For the rest of you, now's
the time to sign up for our children's, teen and adult reading programs, all
with theme of "Reading Around the World." There are special programs,
raffles and incentives, and lots of fun with an international flair, thanks
to the Friends of the Library and many generous local merchants who have
provided prizes.

Hollister Film Series Highlights Foreign Films
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In keeping
with the Summer Reading theme, the summer's selections for the Hollister
Film Series are drawn from acclaimed recent foreign films. You can see the
full schedule and watch video previews of many of the films at the link
listed below.
Films are
shown at 1:30 and 7:00 pm on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in
the air-conditioned Dayton Program Room and are free thanks to a generous
individual donor. Light refreshments are served.

AuthorTalks Series Holds Many Treats for Readers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
June 28th at 7 PM
join Masha Hamilton,
journalist and author of the acclaimed new novel,
The Camel Bookmobile. Ms.
Hamilton will speak about her book and about the real-life camel-borne
bookmobile that inspired it. A selection of books will be available for
purchase to send to the Camel Bookmobile project in Kenya, courtesy of the
Friends of the Library.
Book club
enthusiasts won't want to miss the July
26th appearance by Diana Loevy,
who will share some of the insights to be found in her new publication,
The Book Club Companion. Learn
about indispensable titles for discussion, tips and techniques for great
book group gatherings, recipes and crafts and more.
Copies of
featured books are available for purchase and signing, thanks to Books on
the Common. Fall Author Talks presentations include Howard Frank Mosher (in
person at Books on the Common), a phone chat with Chris Bohjalian, and more.

Friends Host Special Summer Reading Book Sale this Weekend
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Whether
you are spending the summer at home or on the road, you'll want plenty of
books on hand to add to your Summer Reading Program tally. The Friends of
the Ridgefield Library can help, as they host their first ever Summer
Reading Book Sale this Thursday and Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturday
from 9 AM to 4 PM.
Thousands
of children's books and "pocket" paperbacks will be for sale at great prices
under the tents on the Library lawn. Don't miss this chance to stock up on
beach reading! |

Farewell to Harry on Tap for Thursday, June 28th
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's hard
to believe, but the phenomonally popular saga of the boy wizard Harry Potter
will be coming to an end in less than a month, with the July 21st
publication of the seventh and final volume in J.K. Rowling' s bestselling
series. Join us this Thursday, June 28th, at 1 PM in the Dayton Program Room
as we celebrate this landmark occasion and get ready for the Big Day.
Calling
all muggles in third grade and older! Make your own wand. Eat some All
Flavour Beans. Show us your best costume. Tell us what you think will happen
in the final book. And enjoy a Wizard's trivia contest put on by magician
Christopher Hurlbert. |

Book Groups Announce New Selections
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All four
of the Library's monthly book discussion groups have finalized their
selections for the rest of the year. Whether you love to read and discuss
poetry, fiction or nonfiction, the Library has a book group for you. Copies
of the books can be purchased at Books on the Common at a 15% discount or
enquire about in-house and Inter-Library Loan availability.
Our new
Book DIscussion Group page on the library's website has all the dates and
details, plus selected reviews, author interviews, discussion questions and
links to our catalog so you can reserve your copy today.
