Letterboxing Workshop. Monday 10:30 - 11:30 AM. Dayton Program Room. From April 1 through September 15, 2008, 21 sandwich-size plastic containers, "letterboxes", are hidden at various sites around Ridgefield - in historical places, parks and open spaces. Find 11 of them and you can receive a commemorative prize; find all 21 and you're eligible for the grand prize. Or, just have fun finding a few. You might decide to find a couple letterboxes in a day, or a few every several weeks. You decide how and when to look for the letterboxes. Some locations are quick and easy walks, others involve moderate or longer hikes, but this is an event designed for groups and individuals of all ages. The Tercentennial Letterboxing Event is a unique and entertaining way to learn about Ridgefield and its history as we celebrate our town's 300th anniversary!

Hollister Film Series. Tuesday 1:30 PM and 7:00 PM. Dayton Program Room. Now showing: The Kite Runner. See a preview.

Tuesday Evening Nonfictioneers. Tuesday 7:00 - 9:00 PM. History Room. Franklin & Winston: an Intimate Portrait of an Epic Friendship by Jon Meacham. Drawing on interviews with surviving staffers and other previously untapped sources, Newsweek managing editor Meacham delves into the deep and complicated relationship between the two men who may very well have been the most powerful men on the planet during the most threatening times of the 20th century. New members always welcome. Inquire at Circulation for copies of this month's selection or purchase at Books on the Common at 15% discount.

Shutterbugs. Saturday 9:30 - 11:00 AM. History Room. The Ridgefield Library's photography group meets on the second Saturday of the month to discuss their craft and/or head out on their many field trips. New members are always welcome. As the group sometimes goes straight out to take photographs contact Mary Harold at 438-7350 or e-mail ridgefieldshutterbugs@yahoo.com if you are interested in joining the group.

Did You Know...?

Library Logo with addressIn honor of the town's 300th celebration, we will be featuring each week a tidbit of information about the past, present and future of the Library.

Scene of nearly a dozen events most weeks, the Dayton Program Room was constructed in 1990 in honor of Charles Dayton. Funded by Mr. and Mrs. Gordon McGovern, Mr. Eugene Katz and a grant from the State of Connecticut, this meeting and performance space has been constantly upgraded over the years to add the latest audio, video and computer technologies (including overhead projection capability and wireless connection). Since its opening, the number and scope of adult programs at the Library has expanded exponentially, now numbering some 230 book discussions, author talks, film screenings, concerts, workshops and other events each year.

Subject to availability, the Dayton Program Room may also be reserved for many types of meetings and presentations. Contact Adult Program Director Lesley Lambton at 203-438-2282 x1013 or follow the link below for information on rental policies and sliding scale of use fees.
