Ridgefield Writes Author Festival Coming Soon

Ridgefield 300th logo Ridgefield Writes Author Festival: Where Readers and Writers Meet is coming to the Ridgefield Library April 24th to 27th, with a full line-up of workshops, open mic, author talks, book sales and signings, panel discussions, children's activities and book discussions. Meet favorite authors, improve your own writing skills, share your work and more. Highlights include appearances by Ira Joe Fisher and Morton Dean (recipients of 2008 Distinguished Advocates Awards from the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism) and by Mark Salzman, author of The Soloist, Iron and Silk and Lost in Place, a memoir of growing up in Ridgefield.

Writers with a Ridgefield connection are invited to contact Lesley Lambton at LALambton@ridgefieldlibrary.org or 203-438-2282 x1013 to find out how you can participate. Volunteers are also needed to assist with logistics throughout the weekend. Contact Mary Rindfleisch at 203-438-2282 x1009 or MFRind@ridgefieldlibrary.org for more information.

Special thanks to the Friends of the Ridgefield Library , Wadsworth Russell Lewis Fund, Books on the Common and our media sponsor WSHU Public Radio for their support of this celebration of Ridgefield writers, presented in conjunction with the town's 300th anniversary commemoration.

    Did You Know...?

Library Logo with address In honor of the town's 300th celebration, we will be featuring each week a tidbit of information about the past, present and future of the Library.

The Ridgefield Library is truly a destination for all ages. During a recent week this winter, members of the Friends of the Library and other volunteers took a tally by age group of all the people who came into the Library. Using rough categories, their count broke down into 8% preschoolers, 17% school-aged children and teens, 60% adults and 15% seniors. Admittedly this was not a scientific study and patterns do vary during the year (think of the first week of Summer Reading!), but it does demonstrate the broad appeal of the Library across generations.

As a subscriber to this e- newsletter, you are already a "power user" of the Ridgefield Library. Look for weekly tips to make you even more powerful!

THIS WEEK'S TIP: Don't despair if you can't find on the shelf a book the catalog says is "in" - ask a librarian for help. Despite the tireless efforts of a cadre of part-time shelvers and volunteers, there can be a lag between when a particular item is returned and when it gets back to its proper place on the shelf. The staff catalog interface can tell us how long ago something was last "zapped" by our circulation computers and give us other clues as to alternative locations to check (displays, special collections and the like). Don't hesitate to inquire - we love to help!
