If this was a company
by Carl R. DeMilia
Library Director
It's hard not to get caught up in all of the news being reported on the economy and where it is going. The stock markets are always one of the lead stories reflecting their daily movements. This news affects many people because of their stock ownership. Everyone waits for the news on the stocks that they own.

Speaking of Adult Programming
by Sally Tornow
Reference/Information Services Librarian
We have a great line-up of programs for you this fall, a little something for everyone. Our Sandwich Club (those caught between caring for parents and kids) is sponsoring a program on Long Term Care Insurance from the State of Connecticut. I don't know about you, but I find everything I read about the subject very confusing, so this will be a great help. Make sure you reserve September 25th at 6:30 pm on your calendar for this one.

Celebrate Spinning and Weaving Week at NMPL
Come celebrate Spinning and Weaving Week on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 by attending our "Open Fiber Day". Join spinners, weavers, and basket-makers around the world in celebration of their common heritage. This event is being held from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM upstairs at the library, and is geared to the whole family. There will be demonstrations of spinning and weaving, and some simple weaving crafts will be available for the children to do. A slide presentation by Jody Hyman will be presented at 1:00 PM. Knitters sit and knit. Spinners, if you have a wheel, bring your wheels and spin. Weavers with small looms, weave for awhile. Share your knowledge and skills. For more information, call (860) 355-1191(ask for Sue Ford or Jody Hyman), or e-mail Sue Ford at sford@biblio.org

What is LibraryThing ?
by Peggy Ganong
Library Technology Coordinator
Some of you may have discovered a wonderful new feature that has been added to our catalog. However, for those who have not seen it, let me tell you about it. It is called LibraryThing (catchy, isn't it?)
What LibraryThing does is add helpful information to the display function for our library catalog. When you do a subject, author or title search, you get a list of items that match your search. Select one of those titles and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the record that shows on the screen. What you will see are one, two or all three of the following tools to help you find items similar to your selection:
