The Young Adult Council at New Milford Public Library invites 3-7 year olds to a Birthday Party for Dr. Seuss on Saturday, March 6, from 2:30-3:30 PM at the library. The party will include games, stories, crafts and food. The event is free but registration is required. The March Sunday Family Program will be held on Sunday, March 7, at 2:00 PM and will feature Crazy Craft Fun. Families are invited to come and have fun making crafts with Mrs. Ford. New Milford Public Library invites students in grades 5 through 12 to participate in The Stock Market Game, a 10 week simulation that allows participants to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in the stock market. The Stock Market Game is a motivational program that stimulates learning about economics, finance and the American economic system. Students strive to create the best-performing portfolio using a live trading simulation. They work together in teams, researching and evaluating stocks as they compete for the top spot Beginners will meet at the library on Mondays from 4-5 PM. Advanced participants will meet Tuesdays, from 4-5 PM. The program runs through May 3. Laptops are welcome. The program is free but requires registration. View foreign films and discuss them during Monday Movies at NMPL. This free series takes place at the library on March 8, at 2 PM this month. The program will feature Departures. The film is in Japanese, is rated P6-13 and runs 131 minutes.
Students in grades 6-9 are invited to join the YA Council, an advisory group that meets once a month at the library. Help plan activities and projects, and select books for the YA collection. The group meets the second Wednesday of each month from 6:30-8 PM. The next meeting will be held on March 10.
The library presents Prayer Shawls with Janet Bristow on Sunday. March 14. at 2.00 PM. Janet Bristow, co-author of The Prayer Shawl Companion, with Victoria Cole-Galo, combined her love of knitting and crocheting with her compassion for others into a prayerful ministry and spiritual practice which reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace, as well as celebration and joy. If you have created prayer shawls or received one as a gift, you ore invited to bring it with you and share your story. The program is free. Both beginner and advanced level chess players in grades K-12 ore invited to practice their game and learn some chess variations at Chess Club, on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, from 4-5 PM in Memorial Hall. Registration is not required. On the 3rd Wednesday of each month, the library will host an Anime and Mango Club for 6-12 graders, from 4-5 pm. Registration is not required. Teen Talk Book Club for 6-12 graders will meet the 4th Wednesday of each month, from 4-5 PM. Meetings will include a book discussion, activity and snack. Registration required. Questions? The library is hosting an exhibit of photographs by New Milford resident J.G. Moore through April 10. The exhibit will be on view during regular library hours.
Love cats? Join us as local veterinarian, Sharon Etsen, and Linda Francese shore stories of the remarkable cats in their practice, as well as their lives, on Wednesday, March 17 at 6:30 PM.
