Borrowing Guidelines

Books, instructional videos, music CD's, Periodicals:

4 weeks (renewable once)

Entertainment Videos & DVDs:

2 days (renewable once)

New Releases and Audiobooks :

14 days (renewable once)

Reference Materials:

Non-Circulating.
Library Cards.
Library card applications are available at the Circulation desks. Positive identification with a current address must be presented to apply for a card. Applications must be signed by a parent or a legal guardian for children under age 18. Persons who own property in Middlebury but do not live here must show a property tax receipt.
Replacement cards cost $2.00. Identification must be presented for a replacement card to be issued.
 
Fines (effective July 14, 2008)
When fines exceed $5.00, a borrower's card may not be used. Partial payments may be made on fines, but only the full price of lost or damaged items.
arrow Patrons may not use the Internet or reserve books or other material if they currently have a fine on their card over $5.00.
arrow Standard Fine Rate is $.10 a day, $2.00 a day only for VHS and DVDs.
arrow If an item is 14 days overdue, a notice will be mailed. The item must be returned, and a late fee will be charged. Late fees vary depending on the materials, but will not exceed $2.00 per item, $5.00 for DVDs and VHS. A late fee never exceeds half the price of the item.
arrow Fines are not charged for days when the library is closed. Items returned in the book drop when the library is closed are considered returned the last day the library was open.
Renewals
Items not on reserve may be renewed by phone, on-line and in-person.
Patrons with Internet access can renew via the Web using My Account.
