Description of Program
Several Mansfield residents who were interested in assisting the Mansfield
animal shelter increase adoptions founded NECTAR in 1983. Since that
time, the group has grown to cover all the towns in the northeastern
or "Quiet" corner of the state. In addition to facilitating
adoptions from local shelters with the public access television show
"Pound Pets for Adoption" and the "Pet of the Week"
article in the Chronicle each Saturday, pets are also featured on
the website: northeasternctanimalrescue.org.
NECTAR offers spay and neuter assistance for low-income pet owners,
maintains listings of lost and found dogs and cats, and listings of
pets available for adoption at the 20 area municipal animal shelters.
NECTAR organizes the low-cost rabies vaccination clinic for dogs and
cats held each spring at the Eagleville Fire House on Route 32 in
Storrs.
