August is a month that most people find extra time to read. Sometimes it is because of vacations. And sometimes it’s just too hot to do anything but sit under a tree with a cool drink and immerse yourself in a great novel.

We have scoured the lists of new titles and what’s hot for the summer and have purchased them for your reading enjoyment.

Many young adults have been waiting anxiously for the final novel of the Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer. When Twilight, the first of the series was published in 2005, many critics predicted that this series would become as popular as the Harry Potter series. And, it has a huge following of fans. The story is about an ordinary girl who falls in love with a vampire. Her experiences with her vampire friend force her to make a decision; should she journey to the dark side with him or pursue a fully human life? This is a truly wonderful summer read series…but get your name on the list fast as copies are flying out the door!

Our non-fiction collection has numerous titles that inform and entertain.

Isabel Allende, author of eight popular novels, has published a memoir entitled The Sum of Our Days. In the book she details her life and experiences after the tragic death of her daughter. She narrates “with warmth, humor, exceptional candor and wisdom” as she tells the story of “a contemporary family bound together by the love, fierce loyalty and stubborn determination of a beloved, indomitable matriarch.”

In The Body Toxic, Nena Baker exposes the hazardous chemistry of everyday things. Known for her award winning investigative reporting on the Nike shoe factories in Indonesia, Baker has compiled a stunning list of items that raise our standard of living yet come with dire consequences for our health. This is a book that everyone should read

Enjoy your summering reading!
