What are the Junior Friends?

The Junior Friends of the Southbury Library is a volunteer group of youngsters from the 4th to 10th grade. They meet on the first Thursday of each month at 6:00pm.

At every other meeting the Junior Friends volunteer in the Children's and Young Adult Departments doing any work that is required. It is often book shelving, card stamping, holiday decorating and assistance with craft activities.

On alternate months, the Junior Friends have a social activity, for example movie night, holiday celebrations or game night. The Junior Friends also provide service to the community through bottle and can drives, bake sales and have contributed to the American Red Cross, the Southbury Food Bank and the Ronald McDonald House.

The Junior Friends also publish quarterly the "Junior Friends Gazette", which contains Junior Friends information, book reviews and jokes and riddles.

The Heads of the Children's Department and the Young Adult Department supervise the Junior Friends.
